The Master Plan | Main Waiting Room | Concourse | Tracks and Platforms
The Great Hall, located in the Headhouse building, is one of Chicago's iconic spaces. It needs to be restored to its original function as the main waiting room.
Amtrak has taken the first steps in this restoration process. Further steps that can be taken to fully utilize the space include:
- Install a large, easy-to-read train departures board and audible train announcements, which will make people more comfortable about waiting here.
- Move the ticket counters, first-class lounge and customer service offices back into the Headhouse, which will increase foot traffic.
- Open new stores and new restaurants, which will make the room its own destination.
